What are the dynamics between globalization, education and internationalization? As international educators, we often advocate that internationalization fosters global citizenship; but to what extent are our efforts actually contributing to world peace? There are many scholars that have investigated this subject. The question is how to balance economic, social and cultural needs within the realm of higher education and the greater society. There is no simple solution to this complex balancing act but first and foremost there is a need for awareness and understanding of the various threats and opportunities. This will be at the core of my research efforts while in Japan.
